What can you do if your car a gas guzzler? As the price of petroleum continues to rise, many people are converting their cars and motorcycles to electric powered vehicles. Clean transportation enthusiast, Ben Nelson has developed a “Do It Yourself” series to teach people with minimal skills how to build their own electric car. Ben covers everything you need to know from battery selection, the motor, controller, adapter plate and other minor parts! Ben is a natural born guru! While he had no formal training in electric vehicle design before beginning his first project, he quickly learned how to build “EV's” (electronic vehicles) through a combination of hands-on work, informal apprenticeships, and enough library books to literally wear out his library card. He has presented his electric vehicles at many venues, including the Mother Earth Fairs and being the best attended presentation at the Midwest Renewable Energy Fair. He has also been a collaborator on the Open Revolt project, which makes low-cost electric vehicle motor controllers available to everyone. In addition to his passion for clean transportation, Ben has also designed and built projects for renewable energy, water conservation, and alternative heating and cooking methods. He teaches these ideas and techniques to others through blogs, web videos, and instructional DVDs. Measuring Success Of GMO's, Herbicide-Resistant & Insect-Resistant Crops - Nov 06,2013

Initially, genetically engineered, herbicide-resistant and insect-resistant crops were created for the purpose of conserving fuel, reducing tillage and to decrease the overall use of insecticides. This strategy was the premise for the successful sale of this technology within the global agricultural sector. Almost two decades later, there is a big question as to whether or not this technology has been able to deliver the promises it has made. What exactly has happened over the last 16 years? As the increased use of applications of neonicotinoids continues, commercial beekeepers are facing record bee losses. There is also great concern regarding the impact on human health as the demand to create transparency in food labeling continues what appears to be an uphill battle, especially with the failure to pass Prop 37 in the state of California which would have mandated gmo labeling. In this special series called “The Neonicotinoid View”, host, June Stoyer and co-host, Tom Theobald talk to Dr. Charles Benbrook, about his research on gmo's, the impact on the environmental and human health. Helping Vietnam Veterans With Agent Orange Dioxin Poisoning - Nov 11,2013

During the Vietnam War, the United States military sprayed millions of gallons of Agent Orange and other herbicides on trees and vegetation. Several decades later, concerns about the health effects from these chemicals continue. One of the groups impacted by Agent Orange Dioxin poisoning is the servicemen who were at sea. These brave men are often referred to as Blue Water Navy, which includes Coast Guard and Fleet Marine personnel. Although it has been over forty years, there are still so many servicemen as well as their offspring who continue to suffer due to Agent Orange Dioxin poisoning. While the United States Veterans Administration offers "eligible Veterans", a free Agent Orange Registry health exam to assess possible long-term health problems related to exposure, gathering the information is quite a task. However, there are people out there who are doing everything they can to help our veterans get the help that they need. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Mr. John J. Bury, a retired US Navy and Vietnam War Veteran. He is going to talk about Agent Orange Dioxin poisoning and his work as an advocate, helping others that have also been affected. ©2013 The Organic View Radio Show. All rights reserved.

Hamstrong: The Fight Against Animal Cruelty - Nov 25,2013

Many kids and adults love to play video games. Sadly, many video games involve animal abuse or encourage players to kill animals to score points. What if there were a video game and animated series that showed what animal cruelty is all about? Hamstrong is the superhero of an iPhone game that is also the hero of a music video and future animated series that aims to educate players about animal cruelty. Hamstrong is a hamster that is imprisoned in an animal testing lab against his will and seeks any means necessary to escape and bring freedom for the other animal captives. After witnessing mistreatment to his fellow animals, Hamstrong decides to seek revenge and uses his intelligence and courage to outsmart his captors and rescue his friends. Before he was captured and imprisoned in the lab, Hamstrong had a normal life as a popular DJ. One night, as he was making his way home after a DJ gig at a dance party, a shifty rodent catcher confused Hamstrong for a street rat. A mysterious animal testing facility known as “The Lab” had hired the rodent catcher to patrol the streets and round up stray animals. After being injected with a strange formula, Hamstrong became genetically modified and developed a new ability that enables him to navigate the lab with ease. He can now roll himself into a ball and spin his way around with incredible speed and stealth. Not one to sit idly by, Hamstrong is determined to fight back against injustice!
