Dinner PAWsible Teaches You How To Make Your Own Pet Food - Aug 05,2013

Most conscious consumers know better than to buy processed foods for themselves, much less for their pets. Especially with the pet food industry being a $53 billion dollar unregulated industry, more and more pet parents are opting to make their own pet food because of the issues with pet food recalls and incorporation of euthanized animals in the pet foods available on the market. However, making your own pet food is not as easy as one may think. There are certain foods you cannot feed your pets and making your own food doesnt always guarantee that your finicky feline or canine will eat it. In addition, the meals must be nutritionally balanced which is often a huge problem for many pet owners, especially if they are not given proper guidance by someone who has been trained in pet nutrition. Susan Thixton, Founder of TruthAboutPetFood, a world renowned authority on pet food decided to create an actual cookbook in conjunction with Dr. Cathy Alinovi, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. The best-selling book, Dinner PAWsible, which was recently released, has been eagerly anticipated by pet parents around the globe. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, tune in to host, June Stoyer talk to Susan Thixton and Dr. Cathy Alinovi about how you can make your own pet food that is completely balanced and nutritious. For great tips and ideas, stay tuned!

Are Neonicotinoids Destroying Food Sources For Pollinators? - Aug 07,2013

There is a great deal of concern that our honeybees do not have enough food to eat because of the amount of pesticides being used. However, most homeowners do not realize that their demand for pristine lawns and continuously flowering plants that have low to zero maintenance are a huge part of the problem. The lack of food not only effect honeybees but other pollinators such as butterflies. Are we sacrificing sources of food so that our yards can be free from the site of plants such as clover, and dandelions, etc? Even roadside maintenance poses an issue as wildflowers and other beneficial plants are mowed down for aesthetics. Is there anything we can really do to keep our yards looking nice and not take away food from pollinators? In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Dr. Vera Krischik about how we can help pollinators by practicing IPM (Integrated Pest Management) and take an active role in replenishing available food sources. Dr. Krischik is an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Entomology at the U of Minnesota and an Extension Specialist in Landscape Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Stay tuned!

Hidden Dangers of Systemic Pesticides on Tulips & Bulbs - Aug 19,2013

Neonicotinoids have become a household name in the world of gardening as the global decline of our pollinators continues to make headlines. As defined by the US Environmental Protection Agency, neonicotinoids are a class of insecticides with a common mode of action that affects the central nervous system of insects, causing paralysis and death. Mainly used as a seed treatment in agriculture, these systemic pesticides are also found in a myriad of gardening products such as plant treatments and pre-treated nursery plants. In a recent press release by Friends of the Earth, Neonicotinoids have been the focus of a plea urging consumers to avoid purchasing “bee-friendly” plants from garden centers in the United States, namely Lowe's and Home Depot which are two of the largest chains. However, what many people do not know is that bulbs are also treated with these chemicals. Tune in to this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, as host, June Stoyer is joined by Jeroen Koeman, President & Co-Founder of EcoTulips LLC., to discuss the use of systemic pesticides on tulips and other bulbs! Biodiesel Power: Creating Renewable Fuel - Aug 20,2013

The race is on to find alternative energy solutions which will eliminate our dependency upon fossil fuels. One possibility is biodiesel. Biodiesel is a domestically produced, renewable fuel that can be manufactured from vegetable oils, animal fats, or recycled restaurant grease. With the number of new technologies emerging, biodiesel power has become one of the fastest growing industries because it reduces emissions, improves air quality and can be made in your own home! In Lyle Estills Biodiesel Power: The Passion, the People, and the Politics of the Next Renewable Fuel, there is a chronicle of this emerging industry. Lightly touching on the technical aspects of the fuel, its qualities and specifications, the book is largely about the people and stories of the biodiesel movement. It explores the tensions between grassroots activists and their altruistic co-ops, the profit minded commercial producers and the voices of agribusiness, and the current administration - or "the coalition of the drilling." Far from a third party account, Biodiesel Power comes from one who has experienced it from the grease dumpster to the boardroom. Lyle Estill has made the journey from back yard brewing, to being part of a producer and distributor cooperative, to commercial production. In this segment of The Clean Energy View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to energy expert, Lyle Estill about biodiesel power. Stay tuned! Energy expert Lyle Estill is the president, co-founder and VP of Stuff at Piedmont Biofuels, and has won numerous awards for his commitment to sustainability, outreach, community development and leadership.

Clean Energy View: Is Natural Gas Economically Viable? - Aug 27,2013

According to the EPA, natural gas is defined as a fossil fuel formed when layers of buried plants and animals are exposed to intense heat and pressure over thousands of years. The energy that the plants and animals originally obtained from the sun is stored in the form of carbon in natural gas. Natural gas is combusted to generate electricity, enabling this stored energy to be transformed into usable power. Natural gas is a nonrenewable resource because it cannot be replenished on a human time frame. The natural gas power production process begins with the extraction of natural gas, continues with its treatment and transport to the power plants, and ends with its combustion in boilers and turbines to generate electricity. Natural gas is used to generate electricity, serves as an alternative to gasoline, can be used to generate hydrogen and helps create fertilizer. It has a cost advantage over other forms of energy such as solar, wind and geothermal. However, there is a huge debate as to whether or not natural gas makes sense because of the pros and cons with this form of energy such as the environmental impact, the current return on the investment the impact on the face of energy. In this segment of The Clean Energy View Radio Show, hosts, June Stoyer and host, Luis Mejia, Managing Partner, Murdock Capital Partners talk to energy expert, Tom Drolet, President of Drolet and Associates Energy Services, Inc. How Percy Schmeiser Beat Monsanto - Aug 29,2013
