Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a condition that some people experience. ADHD manifests itself through numerous symptoms which may include one or more of the following: hyperactivity, impulsiveness, distractibility, lack of organisation, forgetfulness and procrastination. ADHD impacts school-aged children and results in restlessness, acting impulsively, and lack of focus which impairs their ability to learn properly. It is the most commonly studied and diagnosed psychiatric disorder in children, affecting about 3 to 5 percent of children globally and diagnosed in about 2 to 16 percent of school-aged children. It is a chronic disorder with 30 to 50 percent of those individuals diagnosed in childhood continuing to have symptoms into adulthood. Adolescents and adults with ADHD tend to develop coping mechanisms to compensate for some or all of their impairments. It is estimated that 4.7 percent of American adults live with ADHD. In most cases children with AD/HD have wonderful, creative minds, minds that they don't have control of. A common perception of suffers of ADHD is that they either could not control their mind or their minds controlled them. This often becomes a belief about their capabilities, which effects their abilities to learn causing them to lose interest and value in learning. As the child ages they would start to develop beliefs about their own identity about being “weird” or “different”. Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a way of understanding how we use language to program our brain. NLP helps us understand how we process the information that comes into our brains and how we create a simplified version of our experiences in our minds. Tune in to this segment of The NLP View Radio Show, as host, Donna Blinston talks to Olive Hickmott about how she uses NLP to help people who have learning difficulties.
Patrick O'Donnell: Dog Company: The Boys of Pointe du Hoc - Dec 03,2012
It is said that the right man in the right place at the right time can make the difference between victory and defeat. Dog Company: The Boys of Pointe du Hoc--the Rangers Who Accomplished D-Days Toughest Mission and Led the Way across Europe, is the dramatic story of sixty-eight soldiers of the U.S. Army's 2nd Ranger Battalion, D Company—Dog Company—who made that difference, time and again. From D-Day, when German guns atop Pointe du Hoc threatened the Allied landings and the men of Dog Company scaled the ninety-foot cliffs to destroy them; to the thickly forested slopes of Hill 400, in Germany's Hürtgen Forest, where the Rangers launched a desperate bayonet charge across an open field, captured the crucial hill, and held it against all odds. In each battle, the men of Dog Company made the difference. Dog Company is their unforgettable story—thoroughly researched and vividly told by acclaimed combat historian Patrick K. O'Donnell—a story of extraordinary bravery, courage, and determination. America had many heroes in World War II, but few can say that, but for them, the course of the war may have been very different. The right men, in the right place, at the right time—Dog Company. In this segment of “The Organic View”, host, June Stoyer will talk to Patrick ODonnell who is a military historian and the award-winning author of seven books, including the bestseller and William E. Colby Award winner Beyond Valor, Give Me Tomorrow, and We Were One, the highly acclaimed account of the Battle of Fallujah. He has provided historical consulting for DreamWorks award-winning miniseries Band of Brothers and for documentaries produced by the BBC, the History Channel, and Fox News.

Eat To Defeat Menopause - Dec 05,2012
Every four minutes an American woman enters menopause and with an ever-increasing life expectancy rate, that woman can spend as much as one third of her life going through “the change.” However, despite the inevitability and importance of menopause in a woman's life, the discussion of this challenging transitional period is often riddled with myths, uncertainties, and trepidation. In Eat to Defeat Menopause: The Essential Nutrition Guide for a Healthy Midlife—with 130 Recipes, Karen Giblin and Mache Seibel, MD, two of the nation's top menopause experts, break down the most important, need-to-know facts about menopause, offer tips and advice for combating its symptoms, and provide healthy and enticing recipes guaranteed to satisfy every craving (or mood swing). Combining the latest research on menopause, traditions from their Italian and Jewish families, and recipes from chefs across the United States, Giblin and Seibel show that making simple changes to one's lifestyle can, in many cases, be just as effective as combating menopausal symptoms with the latest drugs and surgeries. Some of these simple changes can include: Eating foods that contain phytoestrogens, such as soy and garlic, to combat hot flashes and insomnia Stabilizing mood swings by eating omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin B Cooking with avocados, chocolate, asparagus, or chile peppers to improve a decreased sex drive Reducing alcohol intake to ward off headaches, hot flashes, insomnia, and mood swings Whether readers are personally experiencing the “change” or just want to arm themselves with information and healthful eating habits for the road ahead, Eat to Defeat Menopause provides an easy and delicious guide for achieving a healthy (and hot-flash-free) midlife. The Neonicotinoid View: Wildlife Organizations Take Action - Dec 06,2012
Although extensive research has been conducted by the global scientific community, ie: Dr. Pettis (USA), Dr. Lu (Harvard), Dr. Goulson (UK) and Dr. Henry (France), the regulatory agencies in the USA and Europe are still not convinced that the neonicotinoids should be removed from the market. Clothianidin, for example was granted conditional registration without going through the full process as dictated by the EPA . The pesticide companies are attributing global bee losses due to everything from varroa mites to poor beekeeping techniques. In this special series called “The Neonicotinoid View”, hosts, June Stoyer and Tom Theobald talk to environmental author and beekeeper, Graham White about the efforts of the wildlife organizations in Europe to take action. Graham White an expert on John Muir, created the John Muir Award which challenges people of all ages to do something for the conservation of nature and wildlife. Graham published the Scottish Environmental Handbook which was the first publication of its kind. He also published The Nature of Scotland as well as a number of John Muirs works. In 1977, Graham hiked from Yosemite to Mt Whitney in a life changing journey which inspired him to create the first environment center in the United Kingdom. Graham began raising awareness against the use of neonicotinoids in 2004 and has also been working to raise awareness about the toxic impact on the entire eco-system. His message is that we are in danger of creating an agricultural environmental that is toxic to wildlife of every kind.

The NLP View: Achieve Emotional Success with Tom Oberbichler - Dec 09,2012
If you believe success is simply making (or having) a lot of money, you may be setting yourself up for failure (Geoffrey James). Success is a very personal thing and it is unique for each person. Whether the person is planning a goal, reaching the goal or has achieved his/her goals, in the end it's all about feeling good. It is this “feeling” of success that can only be quantified by the person who has achieved it, not by another person's perception of what success means to them. Many people chase money because of the culture we live in today. Money is perceived to have a direct link to happiness, meaning that if you are rich then you are successful. Real success comes from the quality of your relationships and the emotions that you experience each day. Tune in to this segment of The NLP View Radio Show, as host, Donna Blinston is joined by author, Tom Oberbichler to discuss how he uses NLP to achieve Emotional Success.
Bottlemania –The Privatization of Water - Dec 10,2012
Just how much bottled water do you drink? Have you ever given it any thought that water is something that is free and plentiful; or is it? Is bottled water safer than tap water? Why is it that the giant beverage corporations are buying up land that host precious springs? What exactly is this doing to our environment? Is the surrounding eco-system being destroyed in the sake of capitalizing and exploiting this natural resource? In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer will speak to author, Elizabeth Royte about the evolution of bottled water in our society and the politics of marketing something that is our birth right. Stay tuned!
Are We Addicted To Technology Or Can We Function Without It? - Dec 11,2012
When it comes to pharmaceuticals, the government requires all sorts of testing for safety. Although media is addictive in nature, there are no safety measures. Virtually everyone is dependent upon some variation of media: TV, radio, news outlets, social media, etc. For the most part, unless you live in a cave, it is very difficult to avoid exposure. Mass media clearly influences everything in our life, including the economy. When negative rumors spread about commodities, investors react drastically. Even in politics, once someone indicates candidacy for office, people react; markets react. The media clearly has a solid effect on people's emotions and in turn our finances. This is true regardless of what the reality may be. Social media presents a unique assortment of issues because the activity can be very addictive. While people may be “engaging” socially on these sites, they are not interacting with one another in face to face. This is not only unhealthy but makes us as become disconnected. So, how can you set limitations? What can be done to constructively utilize media to create thoughts as opposed to being just a consumer of information? In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer will speak Dr Thomas W. Cooper about media overload. Dr. Cooper, is an award-winning Professor of Visual and Media Arts at Boston's Emerson College. He previously taught at Harvard University, where he also received his B.A. A former assistant to Marshall McLuhan, he is the Co-Founder and Co-Publisher of Media Ethics magazine. Stay Tuned!

The Wilderness Society: Managing Our Natural Resources Wisely - Dec 13,2012
While there is a great need to find immediate available resources for energy, there is also an even greater need to ensure that the methods of extraction are safe and have minimal impact. According to the Wilderness Society, more oil and gas drilling occurs in America every year than anywhere else in the world. Since 1950, 2.6 million oil and natural gas wells have been drilled in the U.S. The West's public lands are already extensively drilled. There are tens of thousands of oil and natural gas wells on public lands, with thousands more currently approved for drilling and tens of thousands more planned for the future. Such intense, localized development makes other uses of the land (hunting, fishing, recreating) difficult, if not impossible. The oil and gas industry and their political allies claim that the only way to address our country's numerous energy issues is to open more public lands and waters to oil and natural gas drilling, and reduce environmental and safety standards. What they don't tell you is that drilling in America is already occurring at an astonishing pace and in a bewildering number of places. The Wilderness Society is the leading American conservation organization working to protect our nation's public lands, the 635 million acres collectively owned by the American people and managed by our government. They are also important sources of renewable energy and vital natural resources that must be managed wisely. Tune in to hear June Stoyer interview David Alberswerth, Sr Policy Advisor, the Wilderness Society.
The Last Viking: The Life of Roald Amundsen by Stephen Bown - Dec 14,2012
Touted as the “last living Viking,” Roald Amundsen accomplished in two decades what other explorers of his day couldn't do in a lifetime: He became the first person to reach the four great geographical mysteries of the world—the Northwest Passage, the Northeast Passage, the North Pole, and the South Pole. His accomplishments made him loved by some, hated by others—but his brilliance and technical skill made him respected by all. The world's foremost explorer, Amundsen was a man of contradiction. His unmatched skill at navigating the uncharted territories of the world would make him a living legend, but his propensity for borrowing money that he couldn't pay back made him a wanted man by creditors. The first full-scale biography of this greatest of all polar explorers, Stephen Bown's The Last Viking tells the story of an intensely private man who was a firm and visionary leader—a man who led a full and intriguing life, complete with sordid affairs, family quarrels, and financial woes; a man who dedicated his life to exploring the corners of the world, and ultimately gave his life during a mission to rescue a rival explorer. Tune in to this segment of The Organic View Radio Show as June Stoyer talks to Stephen Bown who is also the author of Scurvy and other works that have been selected by the Scientific American Book Club and the History Club. The Globe and Mail has called him “Canada's Simon Winchester.” He lives near Banff in the Canadian Rockies.
The NLP View: Coping With The Sandy Hook School Massacre - Dec 16,2012
Yesterday, at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, a gunman murdered 20 children and 6 adults before taking his own life. The aftermath of these losses, also known as complicated mourning, affects millions of people and can have both short and long term impacts upon the individual, family and society. Sudden loss causes an increase in existing physical, emotional and mental distress. It can also be the catalyst for newfound anxiety, stress, depression, intrinsic images addiction and lead to multiple forms of abuse. The reactions to sudden, unexpected and/or violent death can include the following reactions: shock, shaking, elevated blood pressure, vomiting, grinding of teeth, numbness, hyper vigilance, obtrusive images, obtrusive thoughts, severe panic, nightmares, intense anger, overwhelming guilt, suspiciousness, anti-social acts, anxiety, depression, cognitive disconnect, disassociation, isolation and post-traumatic stress. “There is nothing natural about sudden and unpredicted violent death,” said best-selling author and NLP expert, Donna Blinston. In addition to dealing with the shock and pain of the loss are a myriad of other issues which question and maintain a state of disbelief. Many people will ask, how could this happen? Who or what caused it? Did I do or not do something to make this happen? Was his/her death preventable? Why us? Why did he do it? Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) can be used to cope with emotional distress and suffering. There are techniques which are easy to learn that can help clear the mind and get some relief from the emotional turmoil experienced after a tragic, sudden event. Tune in to this segment of The NLP View Radio Show, as host, Donna Blinston and special guest co-host, June Stoyer discuss how people can cope with the aftermath of this and other unexpected tragedies.

What You Need To Know About For Winter Plant Care - Dec 18,2012
One of the best things about winter is being able to sit back, relax and sift through magazines, brochures and pamphlets for the upcoming garden season. Every time I see a new catalog with cool gadgets and varieties of seeds that I have not grown, I get a warm, fuzzy feeling in anticipation of the day when I can til my soil again. During the winter, most gardeners take time out at some point to review and assess everything that worked and did not work in last year's garden. As exciting as it may be to review new plants, there is a great amount of care that still needs to be given to your current houseplants as well as other plants that are being overwintered. This can wind up being an arduous task that may or may not be worth all the effort by the time Spring rolls around. The psychological, physical and environmental benefits of gardening are year round, and the challenges of growing with your plants are part of the fun. Gardening is like music and dance, never stationary always moving always changing. Gardening indoors or out is not about creating a static tableau but about embracing change, loving life. It could even be equated to cooking. To have a great garden, you need a recipe or plan, proper tools, great organic ingredients that are properly mixed together and are all seasoned with experience. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer will speak to Horticultural expert, John Peter Thompson, who is President of the National Agricultural Research Alliance (http://www.NARA-B.org ) to discuss the care of winter plants and other plants that you may be overwintering. If you want to learn how the experts organize for the next growing season. Stay tuned!
Why Is Fluoride Added To Our Drinking Water? - Dec 19,2012
Most people take for granted that the water in from their faucet is safe to drink or is it? There is a lot of controversy over just how safe our tap water is and also if our government agencies have the right to treat drinking water that is consumed by the masses. The agencies that are charged with protecting our water claim that everything is safe. However, there are many scientists who disagree. The Case Against Fluoride by Dr. Paul Connett, Dr. James Beck, and Dr. H. Spedding Micklem, DPhil, takes a new look at the science behind water fluoridation and argues that just because the medical establishment endorses a public health measure, that doesnt mean its safe. In the case of water fluoridation, the chemicals used to fluoridate the water that more than 180 million people drink each day are not pharmaceutical grade, but rather hazardous waste products of the phosphate fertilizer industry; it is illegal to dump them into rivers and lakes or release them into the atmosphere. And water fluoridation is a prime example of one of the worst medical practices possible-forced medication with no control over the dose or who gets it. Perhaps most shocking of all, it is not subject to any federal regulation. Dr. Paul Connett is the Director of the Flouride Action Network (FAN), and the Executive Director of its parent body, the American Environmental Health Studies Project (AEHSP). He has spoken and given more than 2,000 presentations in 49 states and 52 countries on the issue of waste management. He holds a bachelors degree from the University of Cambridge, a Ph.D. in chemistry from Dartmouth College and is a retired professor of environmental chemistry and toxicology at St. Lawrence University.
Dr Riley's Box Of Tricks - Dec 20,2012
80 uncommon solutions for everyday parenting problems. There are some children who are a sheer pleasure to be around and then there are others who have a penchant for mischief. For the last 60 years, comic strip lovers who adore Hank Kethchams Dennis The Menace have enjoyed the humorous antics of a boy who always manages to get into trouble regardless of his parents efforts. Hollywood has capitalized on this with movies such as Problem Child, Nanny McPhee to reality TV shows like Nanny 911. We have all seen kids out there that act out. Clearly, they are the ones in charge of their parents as they demonstrate bad behavior, especially in public places like supermarkets, restaurants and parks. Some parents, who are at the end of their rope, will try anything in hopes of getting their kids to listen. The bottom line is this: children that demonstrate bad behavior are tough to handle because they tend to disobey rules or orders. What if you could use your childs uncooperative behavior to positively reinforce good behavior? In the book, Dr. Rileys Box of Tricks, 80 uncommon solutions for everyday parenting problems, this is exactly what Dr. Douglas Riley instructs troubled parents to do. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer will speak to Dr. Douglas Riley, EdD, who is a licensed clinical psychologist with more than thirty years of experience working with children, adolescents, and parents.
How Dairy Farmer John Kinsman Fought Against The Use of rBGH - Dec 21,2012
What would you do if you found out that a drug you were using was causing harm to your animals and was also toxic to humans? Would you still continue to use it knowing that ethically it is wrong to profit from the pain and suffering of others? This was just the case with John Kinsman, when he blew the whistle on Monsanto's prized drug, (trade name) Posilac, which was being sold to dairy farmers. It is more commonly known as the Bovine Growth Hormone or rBGH. John Kinsman is President of the Family Farm Defenders (FFD). John is also a life-long dairy farmer from Lime Ridge, Wisconsin. On his farm he raises 36 cows on his 150-acre farm. 80 of those acres are devoted to hay and pasture. The other 70 acres are devoted to woodland management. John is clearly a man who leads by example. Through the FFD, John works to forge new consumer-farmer direct marketing strategies for dairy products. His organization is now marketing Cedar Grove cheese, which carries a label that clearly identifies that the cheese is produced by family farmers and is free of genetically engineered products. John also advocated for efforts to ban use of recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH) and educated farmers and consumers about its negative effects. As a result of his efforts, the Food and Drug Administration forestalled the rBGH approval for seven years and bovine growth hormone is now struggling in the marketplace. He has traveled around the world to talk with farmers about the potential dangers of genetic engineering in agriculture and the need to change US dairy policy. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Mr. John Kinsman, who is one of the most outspoken dairy farmers in the USA. He will talk about his experience with Monsanto and his work trying to help dairy farmers of America. Stay tuned!

How To Legalize Backyard Beekeeping - Dec 26,2012
Regardless of the fact that there is a tremendous decline in the bee population due to Colony Collapse Disorder, amongst other diseases, there are still many areas where backyard beekeeping has been banned. The reason for the ban in many cases is mostly due to lack of knowledge about bees as well as fear of lawsuits. The plight to legalize beekeeping in a community is not something many beekeepers want to undertake. The consequences beekeepers that challenge these laws face range from risk of being fined to confiscation of their bees, which can also be a big financial loss. There are some areas that may even impose incarceration. Every area is different. Marygael Meister is a beekeeper that sought to do this for the city of Denver. It was a very trying process but one she was determined to see changed. Her efforts led her to establish and organize DenverBee.org. Ms. Meister successfully changed the citys ordinance but also found that there is a great deal of responsibility that comes with such a privilege. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer will speak to Marygael Meister, founder and President of DenverBee.org (http://www.denverbee.org) To learn about her relentless efforts to get the laws changed, stay tuned!
Mankind's Obsession With The Exotic Animal Trade - Dec 27,2012
Some people like pets but some go overboard. If you buy an exotic animal for a pet, it is not exactly going to be content with a small bowl of dried kibble. It is going to want fresh meat and large quantities, at that! If you are going to care for a wild animal, you are going to have to feed it like one! This obsession creates an interesting thought as to why people do these things. Is there a mysterious connection between mankind and the Big Cats that has been hidden for years? If so, can it help save us from our destructive path that we are on? In talking with the Big Cats, they will give us insights into “Who's Rescuing Whom” and the importance of this information at such a critical time that we find ourselves facing. On this segment of The Organic View, Laura Lassiter, from Big Cat Rescue will talk about this very relationship. As a child, Laura was always encouraged to use her intuitive abilities in every aspect of life and walking between two worlds was a natural way of being. Realizing at an early age that everything was an expression of an Intelligence that could be found everywhere, she discovered talking with animals, plants, rocks, water and anything else that most people considered to be of lower consciousness, effortless and profound. For over 40 years, Laura has been an animal communicator. She devotes her energies helping people remember how to speak the Universal Language by going beyond the logical and allowing the Intelligence that created the Universe to be felt and heard within the heart. In this segment, we will learn about Lauras work with Big Cat Rescue and mankinds obsession with the exotic animal trade.

The NLP View: How To Create Achievable New Years Resolutions - Dec 30,2012
New Years Resolutions are made in anticipation of the New Year and in new beginnings. A New Years resolution is a commitment that a person makes to one or more personal goals, projects, or in the reforming of a habit. The problem with New Years Resolutions is that they are often made because of tradition. Even when the goal stated is something that is important to the individual, it is often made on the spur of the moment, and without the respect and planning that the goal needs in order to be achieved. Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) has been described as the technology of the mind, the science of achievement, and the study of success. It is based upon the search for and the study of the factors which account for either success or failure in human performance. Liberty Devitto Explains Why Little Kids Rock - Dec 31,2012
When it comes to education, people tend to think of the basics: reading, writing and arithmetic. Due to the obesity issue with kids, there has been a great deal of emphasis on the importance of sports and fitness. People think that sports can also offer children opportunities to inevitably play in major league clubs, the Olympics, etc. and therefore athletic programs should not be cut. Unfortunately, when it comes to music, not much thought is given as it is often the first to go when it comes down to budget cuts for extra-curricular programs. However, music is something that is such a critical component of our lives. It has been used as a form of communication and is also found throughout nature. Indeed, it is a critical component to well being and can literally change the course of ones life. Such is the case with newly discovered artists such as Susan Boyle, Kelly Clarkson, etc. There is a non-profit organization that is on a mission to change this called Little Kids Rock. It was founded by some of the greatest names in the music world. LKR currently reaches over 74,000 kids across America! When it comes to making sure every kid gets a first-rate education, music matters! LKR believes that learning to play a musical instrument can be a transformative experience in students lives, with the power to inspire the creativity and confidence that are critical to success in school and beyond. They are devoted to restoring and revitalizing music education in U.S. public schools. They bring free musical instruments and music instruction to underserved schools across the country. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer will be joined by the legendary rock drummer, Liberty Devitto (known for his tenure with Billy Joel) to discuss his work with Little Kids Rock! Stay tuned!
