Laura Lassiter: 2012 Predictions and How to Be Prepared. - Jan 03,2012

2012 is clearly going to be a significant year. Many people believe that this is going to be THE year when something significant happens. During the last few years, there were many natural disasters that occurred to be almost routine. The interpretation of the Mayan prophecies indicates that this may in fact be the Apocalypse. In Christianity, Armageddon. Others suggest that the 2012 date marks the end of the world or a similar catastrophe. Scenarios suggested for the end of the world include the arrival of the next solar maximum, or Earths collision with a black hole, passing asteroid or a planet called "Nibiru". On a political note, it is also an election year. Politicians are going to be striking deals left and right to remain in office. Change can occur in either direction, especially since there is such a global economic crisis and no room for novice mistakes. Regardless, of what the belief system is, many people truly believe that these are the end of times whether they are cataclysmic or simply transformative. With all of the hoopla, there seems to be a lot of fear being projected but not much of anything as far as preparation. How exactly can people actually prepare for what is to come? What can people do to brace themselves for extreme weather? Do the predictions from the Ancient Mayans matter? What about the political future of the USA? What about our spiritual blueprints? Will this truly be the end? In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to spiritual healer and wildlife advocate, Laura Lluellyn-Lassiter to talk about what you can expect in 2012. Laura Lassiter is a well known Animal and wildlife advocate, Write, Big Cat Rescue, EARS and CHAART volunteer, Intuitive Counselor, Quantum/Reiki Practitioner. She will be using her unique capabilities to help explain what we can expect during 2012 as well as intuitively address specific issues that are of great concern.

What Do You Do If Your Pet Dies From Its Pet Food? - Jan 11,2012

In 2007, the United States and Canada suffered the largest pet food recall in history due to the use of Melamime which was imported from China. Melamime is an additive that was used for the purpose of increasing protein levels when added to vegetable proteins as corn, soy and wheat. Subsequently, Melamime is lethal to cats and dogs. As a result, it is estimated that 300,000 pets suffered and died in just the US and Canada according to international pet food expert Susan Thixton. More than 4 years later, in the recently settled law suit filed after this mass murder, pet owners received only 50% of their claims. Do the laws actually protect pets or protect negligent companies from being held accountable? What course of action do you take if your animal companion dies from commercially produced pet food? How much money will this cost you? How hard is it to retain a law firm to file suit? In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer will talk to world renowned pet food expert, Susan Thixton, Founder of Truth About Pet Food (www.truthaboutpetfood.com) about this very sensitive subject. Mary Nash Stoddard -What You Need To Know About Aspartame - Jan 18,2012

Recently, at a conference at the offices of the Italian Ministry for Health, EU scientists concluded that some of the low and no-calorie sweeteners, such as aspartame, which are currently on the market, are "safe for consumption". Meanwhile, there are still concerns over whether or not such products are safe for pregnant women. In the USA, there are countless print, TV and radio ads for a myriad of low-calorie or reduced calorie products that are sweetened with artificial sweeteners as an option to battle obesity as well as provide a tastier option for those seeking weight loss. Although these artificial sweeteners have been approved by the FDA, there are many people who are strongly opposed to the use of these chemicals in so many food items as well as some of the over the counter medications. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Mary Nash Stoddard, founder: of the Aspartame Consumer Safety Network and Pilot Hotline to talk about this controversial sweetener. She will discuss what consumers need to know about aspartame and why you should avoid it.

Sustaining Wildlife By Bringing Nature Home- Douglas Tallamy - Jan 19,2012

Biodiversity is something that clearly affects all species. Everything is connected to each other regardless of whether or not it is on a large or small scale. Sometimes the way we garden can actually improve our landscape and at times, can be disastrous. Such is the case with the introduction of invasive species such as Kudzu, Purple loosestrife, etc. Nevertheless, there are choices we can make that can positively impact our landscape according to the plants we select and what we introduce into the landscape. Our choices not only affect our view of the land but can also impact animals, insects and microorganisms that are dependent upon the role of such plants. In essence, human beings have the power to sustain life or destroy it because of these choices. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer will speak to Dr. Douglas Tallamy about his magnificent book, Bringing Nature Home which explores the impact of our choices and what we can do to sustain wildlife in our own back yard!

How To Build Your Own Electric Car - Jan 25,2012

With the pressure to conserve resources, recycle and repurpose existing materials, there are many things we can actually do ourselves. All it takes is a good teacher, patience and the desire to learn. Ben Nelson is a clean transportation enthusiast who strongly believes in the power of learning and sharing. Ben has developed a “Do It Yourself” series to teach people with minimal skills how to build their own electric car. While he had no formal training in electric vehicle design before beginning his first project, he quickly learned how to build “EV’s” (electronic vehicles) through a combination of hands-on work, informal apprenticeships, and enough library books to literally wear out his library card. He has presented his electric vehicles at many venues, including the Mother Earth Fairs and being the best attended presentation at the Midwest Renewable Energy Fair. He has also been a collaborator on the Open Revolt project, which makes low-cost electric vehicle motor controllers available to everyone. In addition to his passion for clean transportation, Ben has also designed and built projects for renewable energy, water conservation, and alternative heating and cooking methods. He teaches these ideas and techniques to others through blogs, web videos, and instructional DVDs. In Defense Of Percy Schmeiser - Jan 27,2012

Monsanto Company is one of the world’s leading agro-chemical companies. With its wealth and power, it seemed impossible for anyone to take this company to court and win, much less a middle class canola farmer from Canada. Percy Schmeiser was that farmer. He was the first farmer ever to win a law suit against this multinational giant. The landmark case, which went before the Federal Court of Canada, attracted international attention because it demonstrated the power of a single farmer. Since then, Mr. Schmeiser has been traveling around the world to lecture about his experience speaking to farmers, the public as well as government leaders about this case. He is strongly opposed to genetically modified crops for very practical reasons. Monsanto still maintains that Mr. Schmeiser violated their patent and continues to attack his credibility. In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to activist, Percy Schmeiseras he discusses in detail, this landmark victory law suit. Stay tuned!

Dr. Bob Quinn: Is There A Future For Organic Agriculture? - Jan 30,2012

With the approval of GMO Alfalfa, GMO Sugar Beets and now GMO Corn, organic farmers are fighting harder than ever to protect their land and crops. Meanwhile, the agro-chemical companies are pleased that their profits are soaring thanks to the widespread belief that the USA is now the largest producer of GMO crops in the world. It is assumed that organic is in peril. Why is this devastating to organic farmers? One main reason is cross-fertilization. This is especially disastrous for organic farmers because once an organic field is contaminated, the organic farmer’s certification is at risk. The organic label prohibits the use of GMO crops. Losing organic certification would mean the farmer’s goods can no longer be sold for the premium price that helps cover the costs of growing organically. According to Farmaid.org, most GE crops hitting the market are developed by multinational companies such as Monsanto, Syngenta, Dupont and Dow Chemical to increase their sales and push their related pesticides. For example, Roundup Ready crops are all engineered to withstand Monsanto’s toxic herbicide Roundup. With Roundup Ready alfalfa and sugar beets on the market, Monsanto can expect increased profits from its new seeds, as well as increased sales of Roundup herbicide to douse all those new seeds. This has also been a core issue for the beekeeping community who has expressed concern that the combination of GMO crops with the companion technology of systemic pesticides has further devastated the rapidly declining bee population. It appears that the fate of organic farmers in the USA seems doomed but is it? Tune in to organic farming advocate, Dr. Bob Quinn, President of Kamut® International. Bob works closely with Montana State University personnel on testing of new farming systems and new crops to provide farmers a substitute for the use of conventional fertilizer and pesticides.
