Dr Thomas W. Cooper: Fast Media, Media Fast - Jul 26,2011

Download

When it comes to pharmaceuticals, the government requires all sorts of testing for safety. Although media is addictive in nature, there are no safety measures. Virtually everyone is dependent upon some variation of media: TV, radio, news outlets, social media, etc. For the most part, unless you live in a cave, it is very difficult to avoid exposure. Mass media clearly influences everything in our life, including the economy. When negative rumors spread about commodities, investors react drastically. Even in politics, once someone indicates candidacy for office, people react; markets react. The media clearly has a solid effect on people’s emotions and in turn our finances. This is true regardless of what the reality may be. Social media presents a unique assortment of issues because the activity can be very addictive. While people may be “engaging” socially on these sites, they are not interacting with one another in face to face. This is not only unhealthy but makes us as become disconnected. So, how can you set limitations? What can be done to constructively utilize media to create thoughts as opposed to being just a consumer of information? In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer will speak Dr Thomas W. Cooper about media overload. Dr. Cooper, is an award-winning Professor of Visual and Media Arts at Boston’s Emerson College. He previously taught at Harvard University, where he also received his B.A. A former assistant to Marshall McLuhan, he is the Co-Founder and Co-Publisher of Media Ethics magazine. Stay Tuned!

Bethany Learn: The Fit2beMama’s Alternatives For Fitness - Jul 25,2011

Download

With the economy being in the current depressed state, many people are cutting corners wherever possible. One of the first to go is expensive memberships to fitness chains. Unfortunately, this is not the best solution because exercise provides an immediate release for stress. To boot, many fitness clubs are also making cutbacks on staff and equipment maintenance which can also discourage membership activity because if the machines are always broken or even worse, ridden with all sorts of bacteria, it is not really worth the money. So, what can you do? There are tons of videos and fitness shows on tv but half of the moves are not suited for the average person. After a few seconds of participation, most people tend to change the channel and resort to looking for some other alternative that is not only realistic but interactive.

In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer will speak to the social media sensation of fitness, Bethany Learn about alternatives to fitness. She will talk about functional fitness at home and options that are affordable and free! Stay Tuned!

Dr. Vera Krischik: Have We Created A Food Desert For Bees? - Jul 20,2011

There is a great deal of concern that our honeybees do not have enough food to eat because of the amount of pesticides being used. However, most homeowners do not realize that their demand for pristine lawns and continuously flowering plants that have low to zero maintenance are a huge part of the problem. The lack of food not only effect honeybees but other pollinators such as butterflies. Are we sacrificing sources of food so that our yards can be free from the site of plants such as clover, and dandelions, etc? Even roadside maintenance poses an issue as wildflowers and other beneficial plants are mowed down for aesthetics. Is there anything we can really do to keep our yards looking nice and not take away food from pollinators?

In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Dr. Vera Krischik about how we can help pollinators by practicing IPM (Integrated Pest Management) and take an active role in replenishing available food sources. Dr. Krischik is an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Entomology at the U of Minnesota and an Extension Specialist in Landscape Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Stay tuned!

Dr Timothy S. Harlan, MD: Just Tell Me What To Eat! - Jul 07,2011

There are fad diets and there are people who prefer to go on them because it seems like a quick fix for sheer neglect of one’s own dietary needs. Then there are people who do eat healthy but just either don’t have the time to plan out meals or simply need a routine to follow. Dr Timothy S. Harlan, MD, has had a love affair with food his entire life. Prior to entering the medical field he enjoyed working in the restaurant business. Just Tell Me What to Eat! is a medically based weight-loss plan for the real world, for anyone tired of dubious fad diets, restricted meals, and unappetizing strategies. It emphasizes a Mediterranean diet with high-quality calories and home cooking whenever possible. Dr. Harlan explores many of the forbidden topics that dieters face such as calorie counting, skipping meals, pro and cons of carbs and how to actually stick to a healthy meal plan and socialize. Many diets that are out there profess that you will see the desired results you seek in a very short space of time but none of them actually teach you how to live while doing it!

In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer will speak to Dr Timothy S. Harlan to discuss what it really means to eat for health and eat to enjoy while maintaining a balanced diet. Stay Tuned!

LionAid.org: Where Have All The Lions Gone? - Jul 06,2011

Over the past 50 years Africas lion populations have plummeted from over 200,000 individuals back in the 1960s to fewer than 20,000 today. This is a shocking number considering the geographical size of Africa and the fact that the greatest number of remaining lion populations are very small, scattered throughout the continent and remain highly vulnerable. There have been many conservation foundations working to improve the lot of the African lion, but sadly to date the declines have not abated. In fact the rate of decline in lion numbers is accelerating, Ghana is probably the latest African country added to long list that have lost all their lions, and Kenya and Uganda predict local extinctions in the next ten years. Lions are a major trophy for hunters. Despite their well-documented decline, there is still a considerable trophy hunting effort. Since the last-published decline in lion numbers on the continent were made public in 2002-2004, over 4,400 lions have been exported as trophies. As such, trophies are largely male lions. The effect of this commercial activity has greatly impacted both overall lion numbers and the ability for remaining lions to reproduce. Trophy hunting must cease. LionAid.org is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation and preservation of lions. Their mission is to create awareness about the huge decline of the lion population and work with government officials and other organizations to cease the legal hunting of these animals.

In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer will speak to the founder of LionAid.org, Dr. Pieter Kat and to Christine Macsween. Stay Tuned!

Author, Frank Schaeffer: Sex, Mom and God - Jul 05,2011

There is a belief that we spend our entire adult life fixing the problems from our youth. What if you grew up in an extremely religious household, the son of evangelists but were trying to make sense of the world you live in as you embraced your own sense of righteousness? In Sex, Mom & God, author, Frank Schaeffer intimately describes his life growing up in a strict, religious household and looks back to embrace life from a very interesting perspective. Can faith and fun actually coexist? Are the ultra conservative views about women, especially menstruation not only antiquated but are they more of a myth in this day and age that simply suited the powers that be back in the day of total male domination? Is sex something that should be shunned or is it an actual way to communicate our true feelings? Why do people use anything they can, even religion or lack thereof to evoke a desired response in other people? Can this same mentality be applied to the big corporations who are clearly influencing our elected officials, riding on the dreams of Armageddon to bring about fear in order to manipulate the masses?

In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer will speak to Author, Frank Schaeffer about his book Sex, Mom & God! Stay Tuned!

Ken Simpson: Skin 2 Skin Care - Jul 01,2011

What would you do if you had cancer and were going through radiation treatments only to find that your skin was having a visible effect from the treatments? This is exactly what happened to Ken Simpson who sought to find some kind of skin care product that would restore his skin. Unfortunately, there was no such product on the market. Most of the products he found either were made of ingredients that were not pure, were synthetic, a combination of synthetic with a small percentage of natural ingredients and low concentrations of 21st century peptide technologies or they were natural and organic with no advanced 21st century peptide technology. Ken realized that there was a need for something remarkably different in skincare and decided to help other people who suffered as he did by developing Skin 2 Skin Care.

In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer will speak to Ken Simpson, CEO, President and Founder of Skin 2 Skin Care about his story. Stay Tuned!
