The NLP View: Dr Richard M Gray Discusses "About Addictions" - Oct 06,2012

Addiction is a catch-all term for a complex behavioral disorder that is typically characterized by the inability to stop the repetitive behavior in spite of the harmful consequences. The most obvious symptom is that addicts reach a point where they cannot control their own actions. They continue the compulsive behavior because it provides a temporary escape from their problems. About Addictions provides a perspective for clear thinking about what to do, rather than how to feel about addiction and addiction spectrum disorders. Richard Gray provides the reader with data from Psychology, Neuroscience and Neuro-Linguistic Programming. This will allow clear thoughts about the nature of these problems and what can be done. As he says in his introduction, this is a book to think with. It is short on doctrine and long on practical information about the nature of addictions and the structure of motivations for change. Gray provides information about diagnosis, reports on studies that say something very important about ‘addictive substances' and research in neuroscience, motivation, and preference hierarchies. He provides techniques and perspectives from Neuro-Linguistic Programming to suggest some novel approaches to treating the problem. Tune in to this segment of The NLP View Radio Show, as host, Donna Blinston is joined by author, Richard Gray to discuss his best-selling book, About Addictions: Notes from Psychology! Stay Tuned!

Why We Don't Recycle More Aluminum & Rare Earth Elements - Oct 09,2012

Everyone is familiar with “reuse, renew and recycle” or some variation thereof. Be that as it may, we are still constantly manufacturing gadgets that use rare earth elements and other products which require aluminum. Recycling seems to be the best solution to cut down cost and environmental impact. It takes twice the amount of time, energy and money to mine new materials than to recycle the old. However, we aren't cutting back and have a long way to go before we can become truly sustainable. Is this because the demand is too high and we have an abundant supply? What can be done to conserve the resources we have from a global perspective? In this segment of The Clean Energy View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Dr. Subodh Das about the global aluminum industry and rare earth elements. Dr. Das is well recognized and respected expert and consultant to the global aluminum industry specializing in the areas of industry trends, technology, recycling, manufacturing, carbon management and new product & process developments. How To Help Your Pet Heal With Flower Essences - Oct 15,2012

Millions of physically fit and healthy animal companions are unnecessarily put to death every year to give their human companions peace and quiet from their behavior and emotional issues which can include aggression, excessive noisiness from barking, unruliness, incontinence, inability to get along with other family pets, possessiveness, jealousy, spraying and separation anxiety. Unresolved behavior issues are one of the main reasons animals are surrendered to the SPCA, Humane Society or Animal Services. They find themselves homeless, and the consequent price of animal suffering, cost of human regrets and welfare services are incalculable. Euthanasia for behavior problems is considered a treatment for many people and happens countless times a day. Fortunately, there is an inexpensive solution that can correct the behavior issue and reduce the overall suffering. In all parts of the world since the earliest times, flowering trees, shrubs and herbs have been used for healing purposes. All parts of the plant have been used. Flowers, the crowning glory of plants, have been considered to embody the fundamental nature or essential character of the plant and to have particular healing powers. They are very important in the treatment of animals because they can restore the balance and harmony of an animal's true nature. They are safe, non-toxic and can be used in conjunction with other forms of treatment. They are gentle and inexpensive to use. But how do they work? Are they effective? Is it permanent? In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, wildlife advocate and expert, Laura Lassiter will discuss how flower essences can help heal behavior issues, emotions in animals and their influence on behavior, the principles of flower remedies and their suitability for use in the treatment of animals and recommended flower essences for specific behavior patterns.

Clean Energy View: The Biochar Solution - Oct 16,2012

Conventional agriculture destroys our soils, pollutes our water and is a major contributor to climate change. What if our agricultural practices could stabilize, or even reverse these trends? The Biochar Solution explores the dual function of biochar as a carbon-negative energy source and a potent soil-builder. Created by burning biomass in the absence of oxygen, this material has the unique ability to hold carbon back from the atmosphere while simultaneously enhancing soil fertility. Author Albert Bates traces the evolution of this extraordinary substance from the ancient black soils of the Amazon to its reappearance as a modern carbon sequestration strategy. Combining practical techniques for the production and use of biochar with an overview of the development and future of carbon farming, The Biochar Solution describes how a new agricultural revolution can reduce net greenhouse gas emissions to below zero while increasing world food reserves and creating energy from biomass wastes. Biochar and carbon farming can: Reduce fossil fuels inputs into our food system, Bring new life to desert landscapes, Filter and purify drinking water, Help build carbon-negative homes, communities and nations. Biochar is not without dangers if unregulated, and it is not a panacea, but if it fulfills its promise of taking us back from the brink of irreversible climate change, it may well be the most important discovery in human history. In this segment of The Clean Energy View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to energy expert and best-selling author, Albert Bates.

Clean Energy View: Douglas Shields- Why Fracking Doesn’t Make Cents - Oct 23,2012

In the Northeast, there is an area that extends throughout much of the Appalachian Basin called The Marcellus Shale. This area, located in the Northeast seems to offer the perfect resource to produce more gas and according to the gas companies, create new jobs. The shale contains largely untapped natural gas reserves and has now become the prime focus for energy development. The natural gas industry is spending millions of dollars to sell the merits of drilling for gas in the Marcellus Shale. The process of extracting the gas is called hydro-fracking or more commonly referred to as fracking. When it comes to natural gas development, there are many concerns not only about the environment but about health and land value as well. What are the financial risks involved with leasing your land? What rights do you have if your neighbor's land is leased? Is fracking going to make its way to New York State? In this segment of The Clean Energy View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Douglas A. Shields about his position against fracking. Clean Energy View: Mitch Hescox -Peak Oil & Energy Strategy - Oct 25,2012

In 1956, Geoscientist, Marion King Hubbert predicted that, for any given geographical area, from an individual oil field to the planet as a whole, the rate of petroleum production of the reserve over time would resemble a bell curve. Based on his theory, he presented a paper to the 1956 meeting of the American Petroleum Institute in San Antonio, Texas, which predicted that overall petroleum production would peak in the United States between the late 1960s and the early 1970s. While Dr. Hubbert's analysis may have missed the mark in terms of date, one only has to look at the price at the gas pump to see that the days of cheap petroleum are gone. In the past, one gallon of oil produced 100 gallons. Now production efficiencies cost 1 gallon per 3 gallons in new sources like tar sands. These costs do not include the public health impacts or environmental degradation further inflating fossil fuels actual costs to society. With American fossil fuel companies spending only 0.42% of sales in research and development (the pharmaceutical industry spends 20.5%), the time has now come to push forward and invest in a clean energy future. Tune in to this segment of The Clean Energy View Radio Show, as host, June Stoyer talks to the Reverend Mitch Hescox about peak oil. The Rev. Mitchell Hescox serves as President/CEO of The Evangelical Environmental Network publisher, Creation Care Magazine. The Evangelical Environmental Network is a ministry dedicated to the care of God's creation. He has testified before Congress, appeared on CNN, NPR, PRI and numerous radio programs both Christian and secular. He has also been named one of the ten Environmental Religious Saints by Huffington Post. Stay tuned

Percy Schmeiser Talks About Why GMO Labeling Matters - Oct 26,2012

Percy Schmeiser is well known activist that has been fighting hard to educate the public about GMO's and the issues that arise for farmers. He was the first farmer to win a law suit against Monsanto. The landmark case, which went before the Federal Court of Canada, attracted international attention because it demonstrated the power of the farmer. When it comes to our food in American, there are no laws that mandate labeling for GMO's. Consumers assume that the manufacturers are using ingredients that are safe and will not affect their health. Unfortunately, 80% of the packaged foods in America contain Genetically Engineered ingredients that have not been proven safe and are not labeled! The Right2KnowMarch.org which was organized to raise awareness for GMO-Labeling is a historic event that kicked off on October 1st and will continue to October 16th. Marchers from across the country will be walking from New York City to the White House, demanding labeling of all Genetically Engineered Foods. This event seeks to raise national awareness and create pressure in the 2012 election cycle for politicians to take positions and enact legislation requiring Genetically Engineered foods to be labeled. In many ways this march is the beginning of a new broad-based movement for GMO labeling. Percy Schmeiser will be speaking at the event about his experience and also to educate the public about why GMO labeling matters! In this segment of The Organic View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Percy Schmeiser about his advocacy about GMO's and why there needs to be clarity with our labels.
