Percy Schmeiser is a canola farmer from Saskatchewan, Canada. He was the first farmer to win a law suit against Monsanto. When it comes to our food in American, there are no laws that mandate labeling for GMO's. Consumers assume that the manufacturers are using ingredients that are safe and will not affect their health. Unfortunately, 80% of the packaged foods in America contain Genetically Engineered ingredients that have not been proven safe and are not labeled! The Right2KnowMarch.org which was organized to raise awareness for GMO-Labeling is a historic event that kicked off on October 1st and will continue to October 16th. Marchers from across the country will be walking from New York City to the White House, demanding labeling of all Genetically Engineered Foods. This event seeks to raise national awareness and create pressure in the 2012 election cycle for politicians to take positions and enact legislation requiring Genetically Engineered foods to be labeled. The best way to get people to understand something is to educate them. When it comes to Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO's) there are many people who are tired of the corporate manipulation of the quality and purity of our food and are taking action. In the city of Boulder, Colorado, GMKnow.org was formed to create such awareness about GMO's and educate people about what they can do. Their mission is to foster positive community change through positive citizen action. GMKnow.org is a group of activated citizens empowering people for local sovereignty and healthy food choices. They stand for banning genetically modified organisms (GMOs) from Boulder County public open space and educating people about their rights to choose Non-GMO foods. Boulder County has allowed GMO's to be planted on publicly-owned open space since 2001 beginning with BT corn and/or Round Up Ready Corn. Close to 12,000 acres have been devoted to these particular crops. These GM crops have been treated with neonicotinoids which have contaminated the land, further devastating the declining bee population. GMO's have made it onto the nations radar screen after being released in the US food supply over 15 years ago without any consumer labeling. On October 1st, The "Right2KnowMarch.org" kicked off in NYC and is now heading to Washington, DC on October 16. The march is advocating government-mandated labeling of GMO foods as it creates national awareness about the safety of food produced in America. As the already intense pressure increases for America to cut the umbilical cord from the Middle East, gas companies are desperately trying to find alternatives in our own back yard. While it seems to be the perfect solution there are many people who are very concerned about the natural gas companies promises of prosperity as toxic chemicals are pumped very close to their drinking water. Many people are beginning to speak out and want answers to questions such as how safe is fracking and what exactly does fracking do to the environment? If there is a problem, is the land owner responsible for the environmental clean up? Does the local fire department have proper training and resources to put out any unexpected fires? How will this affect your property value? As we rapidly run out of precious fossil fuels, there is a huge demand to explore other options as quickly as possible, especially due to the increasing cost of energy. Thanks to smart phones and computers, with just a few simple clicks, information is easily accessible to consumers providing easy access to every resource available. However, this is not the case when it comes to our food. When you take a closer look, clarity is not pretty! Throughout October,industry leaders, educators and activists have combined efforts to further enlighten the public advocating mandatory GMO labeling. While the big agro-chemical companies continue to spread propaganda insisting that GM crops are good for the environment, the manufacturers of conventional foods are scrambling knowing that once mandatory labeling has been enforced, consumers will not purchase foods made with GMO's. “If you put a label on genetically engineered food you might as well put a skull and crossbones on it.” – Norman Braksick, president of Asgrow Seed Co., a subsidiary of Monsanto, quoted in the Kansas City Star, March 7, 1994 However, there is still a great need for education as the mud-slinging continues with the creation of clever manipulative and misleading surveys that are being published conveying a false message that consumers approve of GMO's. It appears that this may be the case with an opinion survey conducted in Boulder County Colorado which was initiated by the Boulder County Parks and Open Space Division. Opinion surveys are frequently misused to influence opinion rather than assess it. This type of propagandizing is to be expected as more people become educated as far as the devastating impact of GMO's not only on the environment but on their health. In 1956, Geoscientist, Marion King Hubbert predicted that, for any given geographical area, from an individual oil field to the planet as a whole, the rate of petroleum production of the reserve over time would resemble a bell curve. Based on his theory, he presented a paper to the 1956 meeting of the American Petroleum Institute in San Antonio, Texas, which predicted that overall petroleum production would peak in the United States between the late 1960s and the early 1970s. While Dr. Hubbert's analysis may have missed the mark in terms of date, one only has to look at the price at the gas pump to see that the days of cheap petroleum are gone. In the past, one gallon of oil produced 100 gallons. Now production efficiencies cost 1 gallon per 3 gallons in new sources like tar sands. These costs do not include the public health impacts or environmental degradation further inflating fossil fuels actual costs to society. With American fossil fuel companies spending only 0.42% of sales in research and development (the pharmaceutical industry spends 20.5%), the time has now come to push forward and invest in a clean energy future. Clean Energy View: Mitch Hescox -Peak Oil & Energy Strategy - Oct 25,2012

In 1956, Geoscientist, Marion King Hubbert predicted that, for any given geographical area, from an individual oil field to the planet as a whole, the rate of petroleum production of the reserve over time would resemble a bell curve. Based on his theory, he presented a paper to the 1956 meeting of the American Petroleum Institute in San Antonio, Texas, which predicted that overall petroleum production would peak in the United States between the late 1960s and the early 1970s. While Dr. Hubbert's analysis may have missed the mark in terms of date, one only has to look at the price at the gas pump to see that the days of cheap petroleum are gone. In the past, one gallon of oil produced 100 gallons. Now production efficiencies cost 1 gallon per 3 gallons in new sources like tar sands. These costs do not include the public health impacts or environmental degradation further inflating fossil fuels actual costs to society. With American fossil fuel companies spending only 0.42% of sales in research and development (the pharmaceutical industry spends 20.5%), the time has now come to push forward and invest in a clean energy future. The Right2KnowMarch.org which was organized to raise awareness for GMO-Labeling is a historic event that kicked off on October 1st and will continue to October 16th. Marchers from across the country will be walking from New York City to the White House, demanding labeling of all Genetically Engineered Foods. This event seeks to raise national awareness and create pressure in the 2012 election cycle for politicians to take positions and enact legislation requiring Genetically Engineered foods to be labeled. In many ways this march is the beginning of a new broad-based movement for GMO labeling. Percy Schmeiser will be speaking at the event about his experience and also to educate the public about why GMO labeling matters!
