Clean Energy View: Author, Marcus Fairs "Green Design" - Oct 04,2012

Todays global economy relies on a massive demand for products, leading major resource consumption and growing pollution. However, out of great problems come great innovations, and Dezeen.coms Marcus Fairs shows off some of the most brilliant, cutting-edge products that stemmed from a serious need for more eco-friendly designs around the world, in the US release of his book, Green Design: Creative Sustainable Designs for the Twenty-First Century. Unlike most design books which focus mainly on one niche, the unique inventions presented in Green Design, hand-picked by Dezeen.com founder and former Icon magazine editor Marcus Fairs, cover the full spectrum of eco-conscious products and structures, from water-filtering bicycles to apartment buildings with plant-based natural cooling systems; from solar-powered garden jar lights, to art prints created from non-toxic bacterial symbiosis. With vivid, full-color photos of each design and concise backgrounds of the designs and their creators, Marcus Fairs shows readers how a movement towards a greener lifestyle has become easier than ever before, without sacrificing fashion or function in product designs. Each product offered in this book caters to a specific need or desire – from cleaner water in developing countries to more energy efficient lighting in dance clubs, and eccentric found-art made from garbage to crank-powered computers – leaving no stone unturned in an effort to make every aspect of life, regardless of income or the region of the world, as green as the next great designer can conceive. Without preaching the graces of “going green,” the stylish and fun designs the author presents will inspire readers to understand eco-conscious living and modern living as one and the same. In this segment of The Clean Energy View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Marcus Fairs.

The NLP View: Dr Richard M Gray Discusses "About Addictions" - Oct 06,2012

Addiction is a catch-all term for a complex behavioral disorder that is typically characterized by the inability to stop the repetitive behavior in spite of the harmful consequences. The most obvious symptom is that addicts reach a point where they cannot control their own actions. They continue the compulsive behavior because it provides a temporary escape from their problems. About Addictions provides a perspective for clear thinking about what to do, rather than how to feel about addiction and addiction spectrum disorders. Richard Gray provides the reader with data from Psychology, Neuroscience and Neuro-Linguistic Programming. This will allow clear thoughts about the nature of these problems and what can be done. As he says in his introduction, this is a book to think with. It is short on doctrine and long on practical information about the nature of addictions and the structure of motivations for change. Gray provides information about diagnosis, reports on studies that say something very important about ‘addictive substances' and research in neuroscience, motivation, and preference hierarchies. He provides techniques and perspectives from Neuro-Linguistic Programming to suggest some novel approaches to treating the problem. Tune in to this segment of The NLP View Radio Show, as host, Donna Blinston is joined by author, Richard Gray to discuss his best-selling book, About Addictions: Notes from Psychology! Stay Tuned!

Why We Don't Recycle More Aluminum & Rare Earth Elements - Oct 09,2012

Everyone is familiar with “reuse, renew and recycle” or some variation thereof. Be that as it may, we are still constantly manufacturing gadgets that use rare earth elements and other products which require aluminum. Recycling seems to be the best solution to cut down cost and environmental impact. It takes twice the amount of time, energy and money to mine new materials than to recycle the old. However, we aren't cutting back and have a long way to go before we can become truly sustainable. Is this because the demand is too high and we have an abundant supply? What can be done to conserve the resources we have from a global perspective? In this segment of The Clean Energy View Radio Show, host, June Stoyer talks to Dr. Subodh Das about the global aluminum industry and rare earth elements. Dr. Das is well recognized and respected expert and consultant to the global aluminum industry specializing in the areas of industry trends, technology, recycling, manufacturing, carbon management and new product & process developments. Dr. Das is the CEO of Phinix, LLC, Fluid Management Systems, Inc. and Underground Recovery, LLC . Dr. Das has over 35 yrs of global aluminum experience in manufacturing and tech areas covering wide disciplines including executive, project, operational, financial and technical management as well as being an accomplished scientist, engineer and inventor. Subodh has served on the boards of The Aluminum Association, Secat and the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society . The American Society of Metals elected him as ASM Fellow in 2002. The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society also awarded Subodh its prestigious Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Das (with John Green) also received the best paper award from the Journal of Metals for his paper titled “Aluminum Industry and Climate Change-Assessment and Responses “.
